Program Notes

Internationally recognized as one of today’s most acclaimed and admired pianists, Yefim Bronfman stands among a handful of artists regularly sought by festivals, orchestras, conductors and recital series. His commanding technique, power and exceptional lyrical gifts are consistently acknowledged by the press and audiences alike.

Following summer festival appearances in Verbier, Israel, Aspen, Grand Tetons and Sun Valley the season begins with a European tour celebrating the auspicious 500th anniversary of the Munich Opera and Orchestra with concerts in Lucerne, Bucharest, London, Paris, Linz, Vienna and Munich. In partnership with Amsterdam’s Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra together they will visit Japan and Korea followed in the US by return engagements throughout the season with New York Philharmonic, Boston, Kansas City, National, Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, San Francisco symphonies and Minnesota Orchestra. With Munich Philharmonic and both Brahms concerti on the program he will travel to Spain and Carnegie Hall followed by European engagements with Budapest Festival Orchestra. An extensive winter/spring recital tour will begin in Ljubljana and include Milan, Berlin, Cleveland, Chicago, Vancouver, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, La Jolla and culminate in Carnegie Hall in early May.

Born in Tashkent in the Soviet Union, Yefim Bronfman immigrated to Israel with his family in 1973, where he studied with pianist Arie Vardi, head of the Rubin Academy of Music at Tel Aviv University. In the United States, he studied at The Juilliard School, Marlboro School of Music, and the Curtis Institute of Music, under Rudolf Firkusny, Leon Fleisher, and Rudolf Serkin. A recipient of the prestigious Avery Fisher Prize, one of the highest honors given to American instrumentalists, in 2010 he was further honored as the recipient of the Jean Gimbel Lane prize in piano performance from Northwestern University and in 2015 with an honorary doctorate from the Manhattan School of Music.

Our Mission

Deriving influences from Austin’s vibrant character, ATX Chamber Music and Jazz presents innovative, engaging, and immersive chamber music and jazz performances featuring the highest level of musical artistry while synergistically cultivating social connections among diverse groups of people. Our mission is to reinvigorate public interest in classical music and jazz while offering a meaningful way for community members to spend time with friends and loved ones and expand their networks.

Aside from crafting extraordinary concert experiences, the organization is committed to making music accessible to all. ATX Music donates 10% of its seating capacity to children and their chaperones, and also regularly presents its world-renowned artists in schools, youth, and retirement centers, free of charge, to ensure our entire community can experience great music.

At ATX Chamber Music and Jazz, we believe in the transformative power of music to inspire, heal, and unite our community. In an era where many experience loneliness and social isolation, our mission is critical. The 2023 Surgeon General’s advisory on the Epidemic of Loneliness and Isolation, issued by Dr. Vivek Murthy, highlighted the severe health consequences of social isolation, urging a collective national response.

Simultaneously, the landscape of classical music and jazz faces challenges, with waning interest and dwindling audiences. These societal and industry-wide issues have driven us to innovate, creating a new model for presenting chamber music and jazz that blends world-class artistry with vibrant social experiences.

Instead, join us for pre-concert happy hours with world-class cocktails, highly-ranked wines, and delectable appetizers. Community engagement - ATX Music

Education and Access

Through partnerships with local organizations, we provide opportunities for all members of our community to engage with our artists.

For young Austin musicians, we provide opportunities to perform in masterclasses and private lessons and learn from the greatest musicians and pedagogues of our time including faculty from the Juilliard School, the Colburn School, and other prominent educational institutions.

For underserved Austin youth, we remove access barriers so that they can attend our concerts free of charge or hear world-class music directly in their school or after-school program. We also perform in hospitals and other care facilities, community centers, and retirement communities, so that everyone can feel the joy and inspiration of live music.

Ensuring Inclusivity: Opening Doors for All

Our goal is to make live music accessible to everyone in our community. In our 2024-25 season, we are providing 10% of our seating capacity free of charge to underserved children and their parents, enabling hundreds of kids to enjoy the joy of live performances.
