In the Community

Education and Access

Through partnerships with local organizations, we provide opportunities for all members of our community to engage with our artists.

For young Austin musicians, we provide opportunities to perform in masterclasses and private lessons and learn from the greatest musicians and pedagogues of our time including faculty from the Juilliard School, the Colburn School, and other prominent educational institutions.

For underserved Austin youth, we remove access barriers so that they can attend our concerts free of charge or hear world-class music directly in their school or after-school program. We also perform in hospitals and other care facilities, community centers, and retirement communities, so that everyone can feel the joy and inspiration of live music.

Everyone Deserves Art

Through our program Everyone Deserves Art we…

  • donate 10% of our seating capacity by providing free tickets to youth and their chaperones to enable attendance at our public performances
  • present free in-school assembly performances featuring renowned artists

Our core program Everyone Deserves Art extends our artistic reach to students and disadvantaged youth in the Austin community through in-school performances featuring world-class artists. Through close partnership with Title 1 schools and other educational institutions we are able to enhance equitability of arts access and dissolve barriers to participation in music performances and education. This program serves over 2,000 K-12 students each season and ensures that regardless of financial or systemic barriers, Austin’s youth have access to and experience our country’s greatest musical performers and educators.

Our goal is to make live music accessible to everyone in our community. We donate 10% of our seating capacity free of charge to children and their chaperones, enabling hundreds of kids to enjoy the magic of live performances.

Testimonials

“I want to thank you for the gift of a truly incredible concert and experience for the Austin Soundwaves students, parents, and teaching staff members who attended the “Secrets of Stradivarius” concert on Saturday September 7th. For most of the students and parents who attended, it was their first exposure to a professional classical music concert….For them to be able to hear this concert in a recital hall where they could actually see what the string players are doing, and really see them in action up close instead of in a large concert hall was an incredible experience – for all of us! ….I shared their joy – I wanted to hang on to this wonderful evening for as long as I could! I heard over and over from parents and students that night what a great experience this was for them….”

“Thank you so much for the opportunity to attend the Secrets of Stradivarius concert! The The performance was utterly inspiring and invigorating to listen to. […] The skill and harmony of the ensemble were breathtaking, as the musicians blended their sounds into a soothing, beautiful harmony that reminded me of the joy of playing in a chamber group myself. This experience truly left a lasting impact on me. Thank you so much for making it possible to hear such astonishing music!”

Empowering Through Education: Songbird Rising Suzuki School

In partnership with the Songbird Rising Suzuki School, we provided young musicians with the opportunity to perform alongside Grammy-Award-winning artists, Time For Three, at the Stateside Theatre.

In the weeks leading up to the concert, the band helped the students prepare through video tutorials and recordings. On the day of the show, the students rehearsed in-person with Time For Three before joining them on stage. Witnessing these budding talents perform alongside these great artists, and seeing their inspiration and joy was a beautiful moment. We are certain that this experience will be a memorable and formative moment for the kids.

"Hello! Just a quick note to say thank you on behalf of my daughter. She was one of the students in the Songbird Rising Suzuki School that played tonight with Time for Three. Making this opportunity available to the children was an amazing experience that I know my daughter will remember forever! I really appreciate all you are doing for the music community! Thank you and best wishes for a wonderful season!"

Inspiring Tomorrow's Leaders: Bertha Sadler Means Young Women’s Leadership Academy

Our visit to the Bertha Sadler Means Young Women’s Leadership Academy was meaningful to both students and artists. Time For Three performed for the students and took questions, making the experience personal and engaging. As an all-girls Title One school, many of these girls may not have regular access to such high-quality music. Yet, on this day, they received a private performance by some of the greatest artists of our time, fostering confidence and inspiration through the power of music.

Bringing Comfort and Joy:
GirlForward

Partnering with GirlForward, we brought moments of solace and connection to immigrant and refugee girls through the power of music. We presented a violin and piano recital, and engaged in conversations about the music and the composers’s lives. In a world often filled with uncertainty, these sessions provided a sense of belonging and hope.

Spreading Healing:
Avalon Memory Care and Dell-Seton Medical Center

Beyond concert venues, we are committed to bringing music to where it is needed most. The connection between music and healing is well documented. At Avalon Memory Care and Dell-Seton Medical Center, Co-Artistic Directors, Geoffrey Herd and Anna Petrova, and guest artists, Time for Three, performed for patients, families, and caregivers alike. We know that this music brought a smile and consolation to those in need.
